Das IGK "Belongings", das deutsche, israelische und andere internationale Forscher aus allen akademischen Karrierestufen zusammenbringt, geht von der Idee aus, dass jüdische Geschichte durch die Analyse ihrer Objektwelt auf substantielle und innovative Weise rekonstruiert, erzählt und erinnert werden kann. Dazu gehören Objekte, die verloren gegangen sind, die man sich vorgestellt hat, nach denen man sich gesehnt hat oder die durch die Katastrophen des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts eine erkennbare Leere hinterlassen haben.

Bringing together German, Israeli, and other international researchers from all academic career stages, the IRTG “Belongings” proceeds from the idea that Jewish history can be reconstructed, narrated, and commemorated in a substantial and innovative fashion through the analysis of its world of objects. This includes objects that were lost, imagined, longed for, or that left a recognizable void due to the cataclysms of the twentieth century.
